Automated Injection Molding Unloading

Integration of a collaborative robot with a custom-designed gripper and conveyor system to automate the unloading of injection-molded motorcycle indicator components, enabling continuous 24/5 production.

Collaborative robot arm mounted at an injection molding machine

The challenge

Injection molding processes frequently require operators to remove finished components at regular intervals.

During the manufacturing of glass bodies for motorcycle indicators, an operator previously had to remove the finished components approximately every 20 seconds.

This repetitive task required a person to remain next to the machine throughout production.

The objective was to eliminate manual part removal and enable continuous operation without constant operator involvement.

Our solution

RAWDEV developed and integrated an automated unloading system using a Universal Robots collaborative robot.

A custom-designed parallel-jaw gripper enables the robot to securely pick up freshly molded glass bodies and transfer them from the injection molding machine to a conveyor.

The conveyor transports the finished components into a collection bin, providing an automated material flow from the machine to storage.

RAWDEV was responsible for developing the handling process, designing the custom gripper, and integrating the robotic solution into the existing manufacturing environment.

The result

The previously manual unloading process was successfully automated.

The system now operates 24 hours a day, five days a week, eliminating the need for an operator to remove components every 20 seconds and enabling continuous production.
